Mold Making Process
Did you know?
There are a number of steps from part conception to final product. The construction of the injection mold is a process within that chain of steps.
How Does it Work?
- RFQ - The process begins with the customer's Request For Quote or RFQ. At this stage the part design has been through the conceptual phase and we are provided with a dimensioned part drawing for quote.
- Quote submission – The quote is submitted highlighting any significant molding issues with the design.
- Purchase Order - Customer agrees to the proposal and submits a purchase order.
- PRM – A Product Realization Meeting or PRM is scheduled once the order is accepted and Design Review Checklists are completed to make sure all essential information is gathered and relevant questions asked. All departments of the company are included at this meeting to ensure any issues with production are addressed. It is at this point that the schedule for completion is confirmed.
- DRM – Design Review Meeting with the customer, designer(s) and project manager takes place.
- Mold Design and Build – The mold is designed and built taking into account all the inputs received up to this point.
- PPI Testing – When the mold is complete, it is tested under the Process Prove In or PPI procedure.
- Tuning – Parts from the PPI tests and molding process are evaluated. Mold adjustments are made as required.
- Retest – With mold adjustments made, the mold is retested.
- Part Submission – If parts are deemed qualified, they are submitted to the customer for approval.
